final product & strategy
I used a grid and horizontal plane rule throughout this book to navigate so many different types of text and images. I combined text, images, and large letterforms to create unexpected, free form spreads.

I made an effort to invoke interaction between images, creating a sense of play on these spreads that would make them more interesting. Here, you can see a horse trotting on text, a jousting tournament being conducted on the serifs of an H and the 'Garamond man' standing tall next to the descriptive text.

I designed these spreads to be unique in layout from each other, with each producing different compositional 'feels'. I envisioned this process as if all of the elements were on a tray that a shook back and forth, the final layout being where everything 'happened to have landed'

All of my spreads were constructed via the grid and rules below, creating a common structure throughout the book and a starting place for the design of each spread
